Steps of Choosing the Right Course to Study in Tunisia

Tunisia is a smallest country in the northernmost part of Africa, full of history and culture. The higher education in Tunisia is well-established and the higher education institutions offer numerous study programmes. Choosing one right programme is a difficult task. Many factors need to be considered while selecting the right course of study abroad- academic, personal and social factors.

Step 1: Know your Interest and Goals

The first step is to know your interest area and goals. Decide the course/subject you would like to pursue. Choose the programme that suits your needs and career goals. 

Step 2: Find the Right Higher Education Institution 

Once you know of what you’d like to study you will need to find out the right higher education institution in Tunisia offering that course. 
Visit the official website the higher education institutions offering the course you want to study. Following things are relevant while choosing the right institution: 
  • Campus location- in or outside city
  • Admission requirements
  • Tuition fees/programme fees and living expenses
  • Accommodation options
  • Support services
  • Programme professional reputation
Talk to the students and professors of the institution and know more about the institution and programme. 

Admission Requirements

Each higher education institution and study programme has its own specific entry requirements.

Step 3: Apply to the University of your Choice

Once you’d known the university you want to study at and its admission requirements, apply before deadline. There is a centralised admission system for entry into the public higher education institutions in Tunisia. You can also apply directly to the University of your Choice. 

Step 4: Apply for Scholarships

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Republic of Tunisia offers national or academic scholarships/university loans to Tunisian as well as international students. The loan is given on the basis of the family condition of the pupils and the income of his/her parents. 

Eligibility Criteria

Following students are eligible for the student loans in Tunisia:
  • Tunisian students who are admitted into the recognized higher education institution in Tunisia
  • Students who have received an average grade of 11 or above out of 20. Students must have passed the baccalaureate exam

Applying Ways and Means

Fill in the student loan application that can be taken from the District office of the Ministry of Higher Education of Tunisia. Submit the completely filled form along with the required documents directly to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Tunisia: 
  • Admission letter
  • Previous educational documents (photocopies)
  • Birth certificate
  • Bank account statements
  • Guarantors’ endorsement
  • Valid Student identity card and passport-size photos
The list of applicants who will receive the loan will be displayed on the Ministry of Tunisia’s Higher Education official website (www.mes.tn).

Step 5: Apply for Visa

International students who wish to study in Tunisia must have a student visa. This visa permits them to enter Tunisia on a temporary basis in order to pursue studies in the country. Visa Application Process and Documentation

International students must apply for student visa at the Tunisian embassy in their place of residence. Fill in a visa application form and submit it along with the following documents:
  • Acceptance letter issued from the recognised educational institution in Tunisia: It should include the course duration. 
  • A valid passport and passport-size photos
  • Proof of enough funds to support study and living in Tunisia
  • Programme fees receipts: The programme fees must be paid in full.
  • Medical insurance
  • Proof of accommodation in Tunisia
  • Return ticket
